About HOBC
Founded in 2025, Hatters Open Badminton Club (HOBC) builds on Luton's sporting spirit to promote community badminton. From local roots, we've grown into a hub for tournaments, training, and social events.
We welcome all skill levels and champion inclusion, development, and fair play. Our annual flagship event unites regional clubs and supports a new charity each year.

HOBC 2025 – Supporting Water Projects in Africa via One Nation
This year, HOBC is proud to nominate One Nation as our official charity partner. All proceeds from the 2025 tournament will be donated to One Nation’s Water Projects in Africa, helping to provide clean, safe drinking water to communities in need.
Access to clean water is a basic human right — yet millions in parts of Africa, including South Africa, face daily challenges due to water scarcity. Lack of safe water impacts health, education, and livelihoods, especially for children and vulnerable families.
Through this tournament, we aim not only to celebrate the spirit of badminton but also to make a meaningful difference. Every game played, every donation given, brings hope and life to those who need it most.

Tournament Format
The HOBC Badminton Tournament follows a well-structured and competitive format designed to challenge players and celebrate talent at all levels. We will be following the BBFUK and Badminton England grading systems to ensure fair seeding and balanced matchups throughout the competition.
Group Stage
Participants are placed into groups based on seeding, category, and regional balance. Each group competes in a round-robin format, ensuring fair play and multiple opportunities to perform. Rankings from this stage determine progression into the knockout rounds.
Knockout Rounds
The top-performing players or teams from the group stage will enter a three-round elimination stage. Competitors must win at least two out of the three rounds to advance to the next stage. Every match counts, with high stakes, strategic play, and thrilling intensity on the court.
